Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 hit Train to Busan, but while it shares the same post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, the two films feel vastly different in tone and execution. Peninsula leans heavily into the action genre, focusing on fast-paced sequences, car chases, and survival battles, giving it a distinct shift from the emotional, character-driven drama of its predecessor.
The story follows Jung-seok (Gang Dong-won), a former soldier, who returns to zombie-infested Korea four years after the events of Train to Busan on a mission to recover a truck full of cash. The action sequences are adrenaline-packed, with intense chase scenes reminiscent of Mad Max, and the use of CGI to depict hordes of zombies and dangerous terrains enhances the chaotic atmosphere. The film also introduces a rogue militia, adding to the human threats beyond the undead.
